Mekorot, one of the ten leading water companies in the world, is committed to addressing the water challenges in Israel and abroad. To meet these challenges, Mekorot established WaTech – the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation in Water Technology. It is essentially a laboratory for developing tomorrow's water technology through a wide range of activities, including joint ventures with academia, industry and various water entities.

Thanks to its position at the forefront of technological innovation, Mekorot, through WaTech, now constitutes an international focal point: WaTech conducts experiments and enters into numerous collaborations with leading companies and international organizations. Over the years, more than 750 proposals for joint ventures and projects in the field of water technology have been examined at WaTech, and contracts have been entered into regarding approx. 28 joint ventures.

At the same time, through WaTech, Mekorot conducts over 60 applied research projects a year, which are carried out in accordance with society’s needs, and pursuant to requirements and trends of various water markets. Mekorot’s skilled research teams carry out the research together with leading academic institutions in Israel, such as the Technion in Haifa, Tel Aviv University, Ben-Gurion University, the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, as well as other research organizations. Moreover, the research is conducted in collaboration with world renowned academic institutions, international research foundations and companies that are distinguished in their field.
