Water quality is one of Mekorot’s primary concerns.
To assure the quality of water at critical installations, reservoirs, pumping stations and
along the 200 kilometer route of its National Water Carrier, Mekorot maintains more than
two dozen online monitoring stations, and reviews their data continuously in the company’s
control rooms.
This is in addition to over 500 installations in which Mekorot disinfect and treats water.
Mekorot’s monitoring is carried out using the highest international standards.
Chemical, bacterial and other water quality characteristics are evaluated against benchmarks
using over 100 types of monitoring devices and biosensors.
An array of company-developed decision support systems helps the monitoring staff evaluate
the data.
The company is particularly proud of its program for protecting water supplies against water
contamination.
Mekorot has created proprietary software tools for assessing the dispersion of contaminants
in a water supply system, together with decision making tools to assure correct response
to all types of contamination alerts, whether at treatment plants, reservoirs or within water
pipelines.
To prepare the Company’s staff for all eventualities, the company performs drills on a
regular basis.
